Evolution of Data Storage Devices

🔸️1956 – IBM Ships the FIRST HARD DRIVE – It was the size of 2 refrigerators and had a capacity of 5 MB
🔸️1971 – FIRST FLOPPY DISK: IBM – It Could store only 80 KB and was read only. The capacity improved in the next few years to 4 MB
🔸️1980 – world’s first 1GB+ HARD DRIVE: IBM – It could store up to 2.52 GB. The drive resembled an engine and had the size of a refrigerator.
1985 – World’s first CD ROM – Compact design, Storage capacity up to 900 MB
🔸️1996 – FIRST DVD ROMS – Storage capacity up to 4.7 GB.
2001 – FIRST USB FLASH DRIVE – Could store up to 8 MB. Modern USB drives come with a maximum capacity of 1 TB.
🔸️2007 – HITACHI unveils World’s FIRST 1 TB HARD DRIVE – Compact in size and a capacity of 1024 GB.
🔸️2016 – SAMSUNG ships the World’s largest capacity SSD – It has a capacity of up to 15TB and just measures 2.5 inches in size.
